Travel back to a rockin’ era with a fun Fifties party!
The host should transform his/her party area into the likeness of a fifties diner, complete with a jukebox (either a real one that as an added bonus plays actual records, or a handmade paper mache facsimile). As an added accent they could post stick on wall appliqués of symbols that represent this time. These could include guitars, sunglasses, pink convertibles, musical notes and leather jackets.
In this makeshift diner, ‘waiters’ and ‘waitresses’ in roller skates and homemade paper car hop hats can serve treats typically sold at a fifties diner or drive in. These could include hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, shakes and malts, all homemade.
Guests could come dressed in their favorite fifties fashions, ranging from leather jackets to saddle shoes, handmade swirly skirts to scarves, letterman’s jackets to sunglasses.
Music should be a central focus of any Fifties celebration. Whether grooving to the soulful sounds of Nat King Cole’s “Unforgettable” or “Ruby Baby” by the Drifters, or dancing the night away to “Rock Around the Clock” by Bill Haley and His Comets or “I’m Walkin’” by Fats Domino, guests can lose themselves in the smooth, melodic sounds of this classic era. And it wouldn’t be a Fifties party without the King; the host should play a medley of Elvis songs, ranging from “Jailhouse Rock” to “Hound Dog.”
For further entertainment, the host could screen famous fifties movies, like “Rebel Without a Cause” and any Elvis film, or films and TV shows set in the fifties, like “Happy Days” and the immortal “Grease.” The host even could stage a “Grease” sing-along in the privacy of his/her living room, out of the earshot of neighbors.:)
Transport guests to a kinder, gentler time with a rockin’ Fifties party. Ayyyyyy!!!
