This year for Christmas, think handmade! Remember as a child making red and green paper chains to decorate the doorways and Christmas tree? Get ready for the holiday season with homemade garland! Grab your Christmas cookie cutters, green and red stock paper and glitter glue. Trace the cookie cutters and cut out shapes. Decorate with the glitter glue. Punch a hole at the top of each shape. Thread together with red yarn to form a garland.
For cute homemade Christmas party favors, make chocolate suckers in the shape of reindeer or snowmen. You'll need a candy mold, chocolate, red and white melts, and sucker sticks. After the suckers have set, wrap with plastic wrap and tie a red bow just below the chocolate. Guests will enjoy this yummy homemade treat.
Handmade candles will add fun to your Christmas festivities. Here's an easy idea. Rinse out milk cartons, fully open the tops and let dry. Melt paraffin wax in a double boiler. Add green or red dye along with your favorite holiday scent. As the wax is melting, prepare the milk cartons. Tie an 8" string from the center of a pencil. This will become the wick. Lay the pencil across the top of the milk carton so the wick dangles down. When the wax is almost ready, fill the carton with a mix of crushed and cubed ice. Pour the hot wax over the ice. Tap the carton on a hard surface a few times, add more wax if needed. Place the candle in the freezer for two hours. Remove from freezer, tear the carton away, and set in clean sink. As the ice melts from the candle, interesting holes will be left behind. Make several candles of different heights and display in groups of three.
